HIGHLIGHTS
Mozambique:
Since the beginning of a cholera outbreak in Mozambique in early January 2013, a total of 1,861 cases and 19 deaths have been recorded nationally as at 31 May 2013 (CFR=1%). The outbreak is considered over all provinces except Niassa, although zero cases have been reported there during the past few weeks.
Madagascar:
The SADC Summit held in Maputo on 15 June "reiterated its earlier decision not to recognise the outcome of any election results which would include the candidates who presented their candidatures in violation of the constitution"
Lesotho:
The 2012/2013 Lesotho Crop Forecast indicate that compared to last year, maize production is expected to increase by 103%, while sorghum and wheat will increase by 40.7% and 21.5% respectively. However, last year’s harvest was the lowest when looking at the past five years. Maize production in 2012/13 is 32.7% lower than in 2009/10 (the baseline year).
